Message from the Director
Our mission is to develop sustainable solutions for transportation electrification and to advance technologies, partnerships, standards and policies that foster widespread adoption. The SELECT Center is built on trust and relationships, with faculty experts across the campuses that have enjoyed open collaboration and joint student training and technology development for many years. Similarly, many of our industry partnerships have a long standing and proven history of successful technology transition and workforce development. Recently, many of our efforts are focused in and around the challenges associated with battery systems, charging infrastructure, and grid integration. New solutions in development range from megawatt scale extreme fast charging to smart powered pavements that charge vehicles while in motion. We are also seeing rapid growth in opportunities for heavy duty and commercial vehicles, electric ships, and electric aircraft. We invite you to join us at this exciting time of convergence and transformation among the transportation, electric utility, and connected and autonomous systems communities.

Message from the Executive Director
The SELECT Center collaboration between universities, industry, stakeholders, and students is about overcoming challenges and creating opportunities. Since the Center’s founding in February 2016, our vision has been to develop and strategically grow a network of diverse, inter-disciplinary faculty and students as well as key industry members and other stakeholders. This network fosters a culture of inclusion across ideas, diverse backgrounds, and research activities that spurs pursuit of breakthrough research activities, enabling technologies, and engineered systems in electrified transportation. Our industry members find tremendous benefit in the vibrant consortium oriented conversation, which includes our annual meeting, monthly online technology workshops, and a number of other collaboration activities. Industry members also enjoy close contact and access to the brightest students, and many students complete internships with those industry members—and are often hired directly out of internships and funded projects. What began with five university partners and a dozen faculty members has grown to 13 core and affiliated university members with more than 40 researchers with globally recognized expertise across sectors in the electric transportation ecosystem. This expanding set of resources has created an aggressive and competitive research enterprise with multiple collaborations across campuses and industry members, which results in large and meaningful research awards and projects.
